Elena Krawzow Swimming
Germany
Elena Krawzow is a Paralympic German swimmer. She took the silver medal in the 100m breaststroke at the 2012 Paralympics in London. One year later she became world champion over this distance.
Born in Kazakhstan, at age 11 Krawzow moved with her parents to Bamberg, Germany, in 2005.
Elena was diagnosed with Stargardt's disease when she was seven years old. The hereditary condition leads to progressive vision loss.
In 2020 Elena posed for Playboy. Her goal, she said, was to challenge the notion of what it meant to be differently abled.
Elena didn't learn to swim until she was 13 years old, a surprisingly late start for a competitive swimmer.
After completing her training as a physiotherapist in 2015, Elena moved from Nuremberg to Berlin and joined the swimming team of the Paralympic Sport Club Berlin.
